| BoardGameGeek Secret Santa 2011 |
[Dec. 8th, 2011|05:35 pm] |
Here is my BoardGameGeek Secret Santa target this year:
http://boardgamegeek.com/wishlist/pvi99th?subtype=boardgame
Here is the email from Santa I sent him on BoardGameGeek:
-------------------------------------------- Based on your wishlist, Santa is not really sure if you deserve a gift this year. You seem awfully pre-occupied with war. Santa does not like war. War, what is it good for? Absolutely nothing. Sing it again. Sorry, Santa got a little Edwin Starr by way of Frankie Goes to Hollywood there. Santa needs to stay farther away from the eggnog. Ok, Santa is nothing if not a soft touch. Santa has sent you some gifts. You should be receiving them early next week. They are not gift-wrapped (sorry, the economy affects the North Pole just as badly), so do not open the shipping boxes until whatever holiday you celebrate occurs (Santa is nothing if not unbiased). When you open them, if they are in two different boxes, open the big one first and read the note. If they are shipped in one box, read the note about the larger thing first. Santa is also nothing if not a control freak. Happy Holidays (Santa is nothing if not polite), Santa ------------------------------
Here are the notes I sent with the games:
Ticket to Ride - "Santa is not really into giving games about fighting and guns for Christmas. It scares the reindeer."
Wyatt Earp - "Ok, Santa lied a little."

M: 8:30am - 4:30pm Concord District Court
T: off
W: 4:00pm - 5:40pm Suffolk Prosecutors Clinic (class component) 6:00pm - 7:40pm Business of IP Innovation (http://www.law.suffolk.edu/academic/jd/course.cfm?CourseID=522)
Th: 8:30am - 4:30pm Concord District Court 6:00pm - 7:40pm Patent Litigation Seminar (http://www.law.suffolk.edu/academic/jd/course.cfm?CourseID=243)
F: off
So I will be in court two full days a week next semester.
I also really wanted to take Patent Prosecution II: PTO Practice (http://law.suffolk.edu/academic/jd/course.cfm?CourseID=558) because I have already taken two courses with this professor and it is the natural followup to Drafting Patent Claims, which I am taking now. However, the school unhelpfully scheduled it at the same time as the Patent Litigation Seminar, which I also really wanted to take because a) I am going to officially be in the Litigation group at Fish & Richardson and b) I heard great things about the course. I spoke to my Drafting Patent Claims professor (who also teaches PTO Practice) and the registrar, and I am approved to do it as an independent study.
I will have no in-school finals, but only final projects / take-home exams with this schedule. Probably a mixed blessing...

Out goes Basic Federal Income Tax, in comes Commercial Law Sales:
M:
4-5:40 - Drafting Patent Claims 6-7:15 - Commercial Law Sales 7:50-9:05 - Patent Law
T:
8:30-4:30 - (Concord District Court)
W:
4-5:50 - Suffolk Prosecutors Clinic 6-7:15 - Commercial Law Sales 7:50-9:05 - Patent Law
Th:
4-5:50 - Justice, Morals, and Film
So M&W will be busy, but now no late nights on T & Th. Plus Commercial Law Sales is somewhat useful for the bar and one less credit than Tax (I picked up the difference by taking the Journal for one credit).
If I had not received an offer for next year from Fish & Richardson I might have blown up my schedule entirely, dropping all patent-related things and switched to Crim, but there you go. Do you see how I did that, there? |

| | Eastern Intrigue - Todd Rundgren | ] |
A night student again, but I will still have Fridays off.
M:
4-5:40 - Drafting Patent Claims 7:50-9:05 - Patent Law
T:
7:50-9:30 - Basic Federal Income Tax
W:
4-5:50 - Suffolk Prosecutor's Clinic 7:50-9:05 - Patent Law
Th:
4-5:50 - Justice, Morals, and Film The above is with my 1L Civil Procedure professor who I adored. 7:50-9:30 - Basic Federal Income Tax
In addition I will be spending either Tuesday (preferably) or Friday in court as the major part of the Suffolk Prosecutor's Clinic. I will be assigned to a particular courthouse depending on my schedule and preference, working for the D.A. The thing on Wednesday is the classroom component.
This schedule is 15 credits, the maximum I am allowed to take in a semester if I am in the Prosecutor's Clinic. I want to take 15 so I can take a light 12-credit load in the Spring; partly to start getting ready for the bar, and also in the spring I will need to be in court two days every week for the Prosecutor's Clinic. Tax, of course, is not going to be pleasant (4 credits, plus look at what time it is), but the professor is supposed to be great and a lot of fun. If this schedule seems like too much work, I can drop Drafting Patent Claims (2 credits) and go back to taking the Journal for credit (which will be not a lot of work next year anyway - I am Development Editor which means I do networking and arranging of symposiums we sponsor, plus edit one or two students' Notes). However, I am currently taking Software Law with the professor who is teaching Drafting Patent Claims and he is a pretty easy professor, so I will likely stick with this schedule. |

This says a lot about my priorities...
So the other night I dreamed that I was playing in a home poker game and I saw someone was cheating. I thought I saw this guy hiding a Queen of Spades in his lap, and confirmed it a few hands later. I told the host about it later, and he told me that the cheater's father owned a store and we should go talk to him.
We go to the store and lo and behold, it is a board game store. The father begs us not to beat up his son or tell anyone and offers to get our money back. I instead tell him, that's not good enough. Instead, each of us who were cheated should be allowed to pick out a game from the store. I chose Earth Reborn: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/73171/earth-reborn |

I will soon be receiving a gift certificate to Funagain Games. Here is my wishlist on BoardGamegeek (when I view it, it is sorted by priority; not sure if that will be reflected in other's view). Suggestions? Feel free to suggest things not on my wishlist as well (like new Essen releases, for instance). |
